What Does a Retired Navy Admiral Know About RV Weather

Jennifer Schillaci • May 6, 2026

Somewhere between a haboob in the desert and a crosswind that nearly took the rig off the highway, most of us figured out that a phone weather app just wasn't built for this life.

That's why I was so excited to sit down with David Titley — retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, decorated meteorologist, and co-founder of RV Weather Enterprises — for this week's Beyond the Brand episode. Dave has spent 50 years studying how weather moves, and now he's put all of it into a tool built specifically for people like us.

He shared this with us from the RV Weather blog, and it gave me chills a little — because it pulls back the curtain on what's actually happening behind the scenes every time you check a forecast:

"At RV Weather, we don't just pass along forecasts. We integrate weather data, then translate that weather into decisions."

That translation — from raw model data to actual routing guidance — is what makes RV Weather different. And Dave explains it in a way that finally made it click for me & we sure hope you get as much out of this interview as we gleaned.

Weather and RV Life — What Nobody Tells You Before You Hit the Road

Rain sounds like gravel on the roof. Wind makes the whole rig sway. And the most dangerous moment in a rainstorm isn't when it's pouring — it's the first 15 minutes.

Weather hits differently when you live in a vehicle, and knowing what to expect before you need it makes all the difference. From mountain weather that changes on a dime to tornado alley travel tips, we break down the don'ts of driving in bad weather, the quirky realities nobody warns you about, and the tools — including RVWeather.com — that actually belong in your travel routine.

👉 Read the full post on the RV Weather blog here — then come back and listen to our full conversation, because Dave goes even deeper on what the Navy's ship-routing strategy has to do with your next road trip.

If you've been RVing for more than five minutes, you've heard the word "rally." Maybe you've scrolled past one on Facebook, or seen a campground packed with matching rigs and wondered what was going on. But if you've never been to one — or never thought you belonged at one — this one is for you. We sat down with Don Florczyk, the force behind The Flock RV Rally Company , for our Community Spotlight series on Learn to RV The Podcast. We're not going to spoil it here — you need to go listen, because this conversation goes places we did not expect. What we can do is give you the lay of the land: what rally culture is really about, whether you need to own a specific brand to show up, and where The Flock is headed in 2026 and 2027. Grab your camp chair. Let's talk about it.
