Celebrating the Holiday Season with Cookies, Campfires  & Christmas Lights

The holiday season is a magical time to hit the road in your RV. December offers countless opportunities to create lasting memories, from faith-filled traditions to dazzling light displays. Whether you’re traveling solo, with family, or as part of a community of RVers, the open road becomes a gateway to unforgettable Christmas adventures.

Just because Christmas traditions in an RV look a little different doesn’t mean they lose any of their magic—in fact, they often become even more memorable. Decorating a smaller space encourages creativity, whether it’s stringing lights across your awning, hanging stockings on cabinet doors, or setting up a tabletop tree that glows warmly against the winter night.

The joy of RV Christmas comes from the experiences: sipping cocoa while watching a drive‑through light show, swapping cookies or gifts with fellow travelers at a campground, or waking up to a snowy mountain view one year and a sunny beach sunrise the next. These traditions may not match the “classic” living‑room holiday, but they carry the same heart—connection, joy, and celebration—wrapped in the adventure of the open road.

Live Bethlehem Experiences Across the U.S.

Many towns across the U.S. host live nativity scenes and Bethlehem villages, complete with actors, animals, and storytelling. These immersive events bring the Christmas story to life and offer a meaningful way to celebrate faith while traveling. Here are several standout events where you can step back in time and walk the streets of Bethlehem this holiday season:

  • Bethlehem Revisited – Waxahachie, Texas Dates: Dec 5–7 & Dec 12–14, 2025 (6–9 PM)

  • Journey to Bethlehem – Thomasville, North Carolina  Dates: Dec 3–7, 2025 (6–9:30 PM)

Features: A walk‑through or hayride adventure with scenes of Mary and Joseph, shepherds, angels, and the manger. Rain or shine, with trolleys and hayrides available.

  • Live Nativity Program – Utah (Temple Grounds) Dates: December 2025 (multiple evenings)

Features: Outdoor scenes set in ancient Bethlehem with actors, narration, and inspiring music. Visitors journey through three main scenes: bustling marketplace, shepherds in the fields, and the stable with Mary, Joseph, and the infant Jesus. Hot chocolate and tours of the grounds follow.

Holidays at Theme Parks

Theme parks transform into winter wonderlands with festive parades, holiday shows, and millions of twinkling lights. RV-friendly destinations like Disney World, Dollywood, and Silver Dollar City offer special Christmas events perfect for families.

Holiday Markets, Galleries, and Zoos

Explore European-style Christmas markets with artisan crafts, festive foods, and live music. Many zoos and galleries host seasonal light displays, blending art, wildlife, and holiday cheer. RVers can park nearby and enjoy these cultural experiences without the rush of city hotels.

Parades and Light-Up Celebrations

Small towns and big cities alike host Christmas parades, often featuring marching bands, floats, and Santa himself. Light-up nights and boat parades along coastal towns provide unique waterfront holiday magic.

Light‑up boat parades are a beloved U.S. holiday tradition too, especially in coastal and riverside towns. From Florida to California, decorated vessels cruise waterways at night, dazzling spectators with festive lights, music, and Santa appearances.

Drive-Through Christmas Light Displays

  • Daytona International Speedway (Daytona Beach, FL) – Magic of Lights with over 2 million lights, themed tunnels, and festive stops.

  • Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Las Vegas, NV) – Glittering Lights is Nevada’s largest holiday drive‑through, featuring more than 5 million lights across a 2.5‑mile course. Besides Celebration, Florida’s famous Now Snowing Nightly, you can find similar “snow every evening” holiday events in places like Las Vegas, Texas, California, and Colorado—where towns and attractions create magical snowfall experiences even if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

  • Celebration, Florida – Now Snowing Nightly (Nov 29 – Dec 31, 2025) with hourly snowfalls, ice skating, carriage rides, train rides, carolers, and Santa photos.

  • Carlsbad, California (LEGOLAND) – Holiday Snow Nights bring artificial snowfalls to Southern California, complete with themed LEGO displays and festive parades.

  • Orlando, Florida (Universal CityWalk & Disney Springs) – Both host nightly “snowfalls” during December, blending shopping, dining, and entertainment with magical flurries.

  • Branson, Missouri – Silver Dollar City’s An Old Time Christmas includes snowfalls, 6.5 million lights, and live shows in a mountain town setting.

Experience family-friendly warm weather magic in destinations like Florida, Texas, and California that will let you enjoy “snow” without the freezing temperatures.

Get Involved at your Local Campground

Many RVers choose to head home for the holidays or spend time reconnecting with friends and family, but for those who stay on the road, snowbird destinations become a natural gathering point. Warm‑weather hubs in Florida, Arizona, Texas, and Southern California are filled with fellow travelers seeking sunshine and community during December. These locations often host campground potlucks, ornament exchanges, and festive activities, making it easy to meet others who share the RV lifestyle.

Snowbird towns and resorts are especially welcoming during the holiday season, offering both the comfort of tradition and the excitement of new friendships. Whether it’s joining a cookie swap at a campground, strolling through a local holiday market, or simply sharing stories around a fire pit, RVers find that these destinations provide a sense of belonging. For many, snowbird locations are not just a winter escape—they’re a chance to celebrate the season surrounded by a community of travelers who understand the joy of life on the road.

Campgrounds often host potlucks, ornament exchanges, and community celebrations, making it easy to connect with fellow travelers.

Cookie exchanges bring sweet holiday cheer as RVers swap homemade treats and recipes.

Secret Santa or White Elephant gift exchanges add laughter and surprise to campground gatherings, creating fun traditions on the road.

Winter festivals in mountain towns offer snow tubing, sleigh rides, and cozy fireside gatherings. A lot of these don't even start until January or February.

As RVers, we know that the holidays aren’t just about the places we visit—they’re about the memories we create along the way. Planning ahead ensures you don’t miss out on the most festive events, but leaving room for flexibility allows those magical, unexpected moments to unfold. And when you embrace community, whether it’s joining a campground cookie swap or sharing a gift exchange under twinkling lights, you weave your own traditions into the larger tapestry of RV life.

December is a season of light, joy, and connection. From wandering through a holiday market to experiencing a live Bethlehem, or simply savoring cookies baked in your RV kitchen, these experiences remind us that Christmas on the road can be just as meaningful—if not more—than celebrating at home. The laughter, the shared meals, and the stories told around the fire become the gifts we carry long after the season ends.

So this year, lean into the adventure. Book those sites early, pack your favorite recipes, and say yes to the spontaneous detours that make RV travel unforgettable. Most of all, invite others into your journey—because the best holiday memories are the ones we create together.

Picture this: Ask your teenager what gifts they received last Christmas. Now ask them about their most memorable adventure. Which question sparks more enthusiasm and detailed stories? The truth is, most physical gifts—even those met with initial excitement—often end up collecting dust, breaking, or being outgrown as interests change. But experiences? They become part of who we are, weaving themselves into the fabric of our memories and shaping our character in lasting ways.
