Introducing The Learn to RV Celebrating 250 Series!

The United States turns 250 this year — and we can't think of a better community to celebrate that with than ours. All year long we are sharing stories from RVers across the country who are finding their own ways to honor, explore, and celebrate this incredible milestone. Because nobody sees this country quite like we do.

Steve Gallaher of Campfires and Motors is up FIRST & as an Army veteran, he is the perfect person to kick things off.

In 2026, the United States will celebrate a milestone few nations ever reach: 250 years of independence. Two and a half centuries ago, a group of determined people made a bold decision to pursue freedom and self-governance. That decision sparked a journey that shaped the country we know today.

The story of America has always been about the journey. It is about exploration, perseverance, sacrifice, and the belief that freedom is worth defending.

For our family, that idea of the American journey is not just history. It is something we live every day.

America’s 250th Anniversary: A Historic Milestone

Across the United States, the 250th anniversary of American Independence is being celebrated throughout 2026 with events, festivals, and historical programs from coast to coast. The milestone marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, and it is being organized through a nationwide initiative known as America250. The goal is not just to look back at history, but also to reflect on the journey of the country and inspire the next generation of Americans.

Throughout the year, Americans will see parades, concerts, museum exhibits, historical reenactments, and major fireworks celebrations taking place in cities and small towns alike. National museums and institutions like the Smithsonian are hosting special exhibitions and festivals, while local communities are planning their own events to highlight their role in the nation’s story.

Some states are even organizing torch relays, heritage trails, and educational programs that travel across entire regions to bring history directly to communities.

There are also several large national initiatives planned for the anniversary. Historic founding-era documents are traveling the country on a special tour so people can see them up close, while mobile exhibits and traveling displays are visiting schools and museums nationwide. Plans also include major concerts, celebrations on the National Mall in Washington DC, and special events tied to sports, cultural festivals, and national parks.

The goal is to create a year-long celebration that invites Americans everywhere to reconnect with the history, freedom, and opportunities that have shaped the country over the last two and a half centuries.

Exploring America During the 250th

For travelers and RV families like ours, the 250th anniversary is a perfect reminder of how incredible this country really is. One of the best ways to celebrate America is to get out and see it.

From historic towns in New England to the wide-open landscapes of the west, the United States is full of places where the story of the nation comes alive. Traveling allows you to walk the same streets and trails where history was made, visit monuments that honor those who came before us, and experience the diversity of landscapes and communities that make this country so unique.

That spirit of exploration is what the American Journey  is all about. Whether you are visiting national parks, stopping in small towns, attending local parades, or watching fireworks under a wide-open sky, every mile traveled becomes part of the celebration.

For us, traveling the country full time in our RV has given us a deeper appreciation for the people, places, and freedoms that define America. As the nation celebrates 250 years, there may be no better time to hit the road, explore somewhere new, and take part in the ongoing story of this country.

And that spirit is exactly what inspired our American Journey 250 shirt.

A Shirt That Represents the Journey

We created the American Journey 250 t-shirt design as a way to celebrate this historic moment while also honoring the spirit of exploration that defines America.

The design represents more than just a date on a calendar. It represents the miles traveled, the stories told around campfires, the freedom of the open road, and the generations who helped build and protect this country.

For RVers, travelers, and adventurers, the idea of an American Journey means something special. It means seeing the country firsthand, meeting people from all walks of life, and discovering places you may have never imagined visiting.

Every road tells a story.

Giving Back to Those Who Serve

One of the things we are most proud of with this shirt is that it also gives back.

From every American Journey 250 shirt sold, $5 is donated to the Night Stalker Association. This organization supports the soldiers and families of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the Night Stalkers.

Supporting those who serve our country is something that means a lot to us personally, and this design gave us an opportunity to turn a simple shirt into something that contributes to a meaningful cause.

When you wear it, you are not just celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. You are also helping support the people who continue to defend the freedoms we enjoy.

If you’re a full-time RVer, you already understand something most people don’t....that life doesn’t always go according to plan. You’ve chosen freedom. Flexibility. The ability to wake up in a new place whenever you want. But with that freedom comes a unique responsibility—especially when it comes to your health insurance. Because when you’re constantly on the move, having the right coverage isn’t just important… it’s critical. And recently, I was reminded exactly why.

My husband is the techie in our relationship. In my world, that means he's the one who thinks about things I don't and occasionally explains them to me in ways that stick. We were talking once about the risks of public WiFi. I wasn't thinking much of it—honestly, we have our own internet, we don't rely on campground networks, I figured we were pretty well covered. And then he showed me something.
