What Is a Rally? — And Why You Might Need One More Than You Think

Jennifer Schillaci • April 23, 2026

If you've been RVing for more than five minutes, you've heard the word "rally." Maybe you've scrolled past one on Facebook, or seen a campground packed with matching rigs and wondered what was going on. But if you've never been to one — or never thought you belonged at one — this one is for you.

We sat down with Don Florczyk, the force behind The Flock RV Rally Company, for our Community Spotlight series on Learn to RV The Podcast. We're not going to spoil it here — you need to go listen, because this conversation goes places we did not expect.

What we can do is give you the lay of the land: what rally culture is really about, whether you need to own a specific brand to show up, and where The Flock is headed in 2026 and 2027.

Grab your camp chair. Let's talk about it.

What Even Is a Rally?

A rally is a gathering of RVers — usually around a shared brand, interest, or community — at a campground for several days. Think potlucks. Think seminars by actual vendors & manufacturers.

Think whitewater rafting with your campground neighbors at 8am on a Tuesday.

But here's what most people get wrong about rallies: they assume it's just a party with hookups.

It's not. Or — it's not only that.

The best rallies are where you find out what you don't know you don't know.

We talk about that a lot here at Learn to RV, and it's exactly the gap The Flock was built to fill. Don saw an entire brand community — Jayco and all the brands under the Jayco umbrella — with no dedicated gathering, no space to ask questions directly to manufacturers, and no built-in accountability for the answers.

So he built one. And then another. And then five more.

Do I Have to Own a Jayco to Go to a Flock Rally?

Short answer: No.

The Flock is built for Jayco owners and owners of brands under the Jayco umbrella — that includes Starcraft, Open Range, Heartland, and Entegra Coach. But here's what Don told us directly:

If you're traveling with friends who own a Jayco brand, reach out. He will make it work for everyone.

You'll get the same experience, the same seminars, the same community. Because at the end of the day, as Don puts it — we're all RVers. The brand on the side of your rig matters a lot less than the people sitting around the campfire.

What Actually Happens at a Flock Rally?

Here's what sets The Flock apart from a generic campground meetup:

Real manufacturer access. Don brings the actual companies in — not just pamphlets and pens.

At the Indiana rally (more on that below), Jayco's customer improvement team shows up for the entire week. Product development leads for each line sit down for open Q&A.

Dometic comes. BAL Slide comes. Lippert comes. These are the people who make the parts that are on your rig right now.

On-site repairs and service. Have something that needs attention? At the smaller rallies, repair techs come to you. The big Indiana rally takes it further — vendors offer show specials and free installation on certain parts. You can schedule your appointments weeks in advance through Don.

Virtual vendor sessions. Can't get a manufacturer to travel? Don has figured out how to bring them in live, virtually, with microphones in the audience for real-time Q&A. This isn't a recorded video. It's interactive. And the crowd's reaction to it says everything.

Seminars that change what you know. You see mouths drop open when manufacturers explain what owners are supposed to be doing with their rigs — maintenance that nobody ever told them about.

Learn It Before You Need It isn't just a tagline here.

The social side. Potlucks. Game nights. Movie nights for the kids. A Beatles tribute act, a comedian showcase, a southern rock band — okay, that was Indiana two years ago and apparently people said it was too much entertainment, which genuinely surprised everyone involved.

The point is: Don asks his community what they want, and then he builds it.

Rally Culture: Why It Hits Different

Here's what nobody tells you before your first rally: the people you meet will probably become your people. I wanna be friends with this woman riding a dinosaur...don't you?

When attendees register for a Flock rally, they fill in a comments section. Don reads every one. "Please put me next to so-and-so" — because they met at the last rally, they've been planning a meetup ever since, and now they're back.

He's watched friendships form at his rallies that have moved off-property and onto the road together. That's just the nature of rally culture. You show up as strangers with a shared interest. You often leave with a group text.

And for those of you who are introverts traveling with extroverts (or vice versa) — Don thinks about you too. Kid counts. Pet counts. He knows how many dogs and cats are coming. The bandanas are already ordered.
