Nomadic Teens: Prom Connection

Prom is a magical milestone, but for nomadic roadschooling families, navigating this special occasion can feel daunting. At Learn to RV, we understand that blending both education and community is key for families on the move. With a little creativity & connection, nomadic teens can experience the joys of prom and graduation by connecting with communities that specialize in this.

We can help provide insights on how to research and join RV family community-based memberships and make connections. This transforms these challenges into unforgettable memories, ensuring your teen celebrates their achievements with peers in style, no matter where the road leads!

Traveling as a family with teens can be an exciting adventure, but keeping them connected with friends is essential. We understand the importance of fostering those connections, especially during winter months and at various events throughout the year with other traveling families. Engaging with a vibrant community not only balances the unique RV lifestyle but also enriches your teen's experience on the road.

While many of these kids see each other as parents get together intentionally at events like Escapade & Bash as well as connect in the winter as they all head south, there is just something extra special about a teen centric event.

There were 2 separate proms in May. One was hosted by The Republic of Nomads in Colorado,  the other hosted by Fulltime Families in South Carolina. At Learn to RV, we believe that you can join whatever group that you are most comfortable in... or join ALL of the communities. As you travel, it's like visiting different neighborhoods.

Republic Of Nomads

Teen Spirit

South Fork, Colorado

The Republic of Nomads crafted an unforgettable 7-day rally exclusively for 20 families, fostering deeper connections among teens and their loved ones. With a perfect mix of adventure and creativity, participants enjoyed daily activities, an energizing pep rally, impactful service projects in the local community at 3 separate locations, and an opportunity for the Senior class to experience Graduation surrounded by the community that has supported them.

The week culminated in a memorable Prom Night, bringing teens together in celebration.

It was more than just an event; it was a rich tapestry of experiences that strengthened bonds and ignited lasting friendships!

It's FREE to join.

Events are extra.

Fulltime Families

Teen Rally

Hilton Head, South Carolina

This past week in Hilton Head, Fulltime Families created unforgettable memories for families on the move, filled with camaraderie, growth, and service.

With the amazing support of World Share, families & teens engaged in meaningful service projects learning to give back to the community.

During the rally the teens enjoyed fun smoothie talks to fuel their adventures. Plus, students sharpened their skills through resume-building workshops.

The fun didn't stop! Fulltime Families events are known for bringing people together, and a prom night was the highlight of this event. Even the younger kids had an opportunity to have their very own dance!

A family Graduation ceremony followed the next day to honor the graduates and create  memories before those teens move onto their next adventure.

What an exciting time for you! Whether you’re in the dreaming stage, the planning stage, or the “you’ve already gone and done it” stage, it’s exciting! There are so many things to consider and figure out before you can launch into full-time living. One of the most asked questions is how to make money while full-time RVing. This article is by far NOT the only ways you can find to support yourself and family - but it is all the ways I have found when answering this question for myself. When we launched, I was a professional, successful wedding photographer/videographer. It was our family of 6’s only income. My husband was my second shooter, and I had a whole team of photographers/videographers also working for us. I was consistently shooting about 6 weddings per weekend, all over the country. We made a decent living - and I was proud of that business, as I’m fully self-taught and built it from the ground-up, by myself. Then COVID hit. We were already full-timing at this point. My husband had been a stay-at-home Dad for 4 years, by now, as we had 3 kids under 5 before we launched. COVID devastated us financially - as it took our only career right out from under us. Of course, I still have that business to this day - ( photographyandbeyond .com ) but when you have over 300 weddings on the calendar for the year 2020, and all but a handful cancel - needing to refund most of what people paid in, cancel contracts for our team members, etc. You can just imagine how detrimental that was to our only income stream. I found myself with really no job, and a family of 6 to support. I should also let you know that the only degree I have is an associates degree. I’m one of those people that went to school plenty of times for different majors, and then decided I wasn’t passionate about that and switched to something else, never finishing a single one. The first thing I did – which is what everyone can do - is go to Indeed.com , flexjobs.com , ziprecruiters.com , etc. and I applied for every single remote job that I was qualified for. It didn’t matter what it was. If I had the qualifications, I applied. Some were not even remote. I figured, if I could get someone on the phone and tell them my situation, especially during COVID, maybe the non-remote position would turn remote for me.
