Product Review The Wacko A/C Silencer

A man in a red shirt is holding a black box

In 2020, we found ourselves at the bustling Tampa Supershow, proudly representing our RV service business. Surrounded by innovative products, we couldn't help but be captivated by our neighbor vendor’s sales pitch—he had an intriguing product that promised to silence that relentless A/C noise.

Skeptical yet intrigued, we decided to take the plunge after a few days of contemplation. Frank had been constantly shutting off the bedroom A/C just to hear customer calls, so we figured anything would be an upgrade.

Darrell, the product’s owner, insisted we should buy two, but I dismissed it as just another sales tactic. Regardless, we returned to the RV and installed the Wacko A/C Silencer, curious to see if it really lived up to the hype!

Installation of the Wacko RV A/C Silencer is a great way to reduce noise and improve air quality in your RV. Since it uses existing holes, it's a pretty straightforward DIY project.

Here’s a general step-by-step guide to help you:

  1. Turn Off the A/C – Safety first! Make sure the unit is off before you begin.

  2. Remove the Existing Cover – Unscrew and take off the old air return cover.

  3. Install the Electrostatic Filter – Place the filter into the RV A/C Silencer to ensure better air quality.

  4. Attach the Silencer Unit – Use the existing screw holes to secure it in place. No drilling required!

  5. Test the Airflow & Noise Levels – Once installed, turn the A/C back on and notice the difference.

That was it! Easy peasy! I couldn’t believe how well it worked, better than I ever expected. It not only cooled the bedroom down more effectively, but it was also blissfully quiet so Frank could now take calls without shutting off the A/C unit! I felt like I had uncovered a hidden gem in our RV essentials.

At that moment, I knew we definitely needed another one for the living room. But honestly, the thought of bringing that up with Darrell gave me pause, he can be a tough negotiator when it comes to purchases. Still, with the comfort this little upgrade brought, I was ready to make the case and ready to go eat some crow... and admit we needed a second unit.

The WackO RV A/C Silencer works by reducing noise and improving airflow in RV air conditioning units. It achieves this through a combination of sound-dampening materials and an electrostatic air filter that enhances air quality while minimizing disruptive noise.

When you take a few moments to get to know Darrell, you'll find out that this idea was actually born around a campfire with a few of his friends. He said "who would even buy this crazy Wacko stuff?" He had resounding support from his friends that they were sure people would.

There are a lot of products that don't live up to their hype.

The Wacko A/C silencer is not one of them.

How it Works:

Noise Reduction – The silencer uses a recycled cotton duct liner that absorbs sound and reduces noise levels by 8-10 decibels (dB)

Better Filtration – The electrostatic air filter captures dust, lint, pollen, and other pollutants, ensuring cleaner air inside your RV- a bonus is that it's easy to clean!

Optimized Airflow – The design enhances airflow efficiency, helping your A/C unit run more effectively.

Easy Installation – It fits into existing screw holes, requiring no drilling, and can be installed in under 15 minutes

At RV events across the country, Daryl's amazing product is hard to miss, and we can’t help but chuckle about my initial hesitation to snag that second unit when we first met him.

Frank proudly rocks the Wacko A/C silencer swag, a testament to our support for the community. At Learn to RV, we're all about uplifting great innovations, especially when they truly exceed our expectations. It’s these connections  & products that enrich our journey and make RVing even more enjoyable!

The Wacko A/C Silencer works on Dometic, GE, Coleman Mach & Furrion. Not to worry, if you have a fully ducted unit you can still replace the filters with quality filters from Wacko products. Maintaining clean air in your RV is crucial for your comfort and health. The Wacko Return Air Replacement Filters are designed to enhance the air quality inside your RV by effectively removing dust, lint, pollen, and other pollutants.

Our kids still ask for things. The difference now is what happens next. Over the past year, we've been showing our children, ages 9 and 11, different ways to start and run a business while we travel. It started as a way to keep them engaged and give them a sense of ownership on the road, and it's turned into something we're genuinely committed to. When they ask for extras now, the answer is almost always the same: that's what your money is for. Not as a punishment, but as a real lesson in what things actually cost and what earning something means. The result is kids who think before they spend — because they know what it felt like to earn it. I am not saying they spend it wisely every time, but they are learning. Here's how we've been doing it.

If you’re a full-time RVer, you already understand something most people don’t....that life doesn’t always go according to plan. You’ve chosen freedom. Flexibility. The ability to wake up in a new place whenever you want. But with that freedom comes a unique responsibility—especially when it comes to your health insurance. Because when you’re constantly on the move, having the right coverage isn’t just important… it’s critical. And recently, I was reminded exactly why.
