Why Do RV Tires Blow Out?
Jennifer Schillaci • April 27, 2026
What's Under Your Rig Matters More Than You Think.
This week on Learn to RV the Podcast — we're going under the rig. And you're not going to want to miss it.

Let me ask you something.
When is the last time you thought about what is actually carrying your RV down the highway?
Not the engine. Not the slides. Not the fresh water tank. The things that are between your rig & the road — the tires, the brakes, the suspension, the systems that monitor all of it in real time.
If your answer is 'not recently' or 'I honestly don't know' you are not alone. And this week's episode of Learn to RV the Podcast was made for you.
Did you know that 48% of all RV roadside service calls are tire-related. Most of them are also completely preventable.
This week Jennifer and Tasha are bringing in the people who know this space better than almost anyone & the conversation covers everything from blowouts and brake failure to suspension and what a Tire Pressure Monitoring System is actually doing for you at 65 miles
per hour.

This week we are joined by three industry voices who each bring
something completely different to the table.
Tommy Henderson — Henderson's Line-Up
Special Appearance- Suspension & Steering Expert
If you have ever dealt with a rig that wanders, pulls, or just doesn't feel right on the highway — Tommy's world is exactly where those answers live. Henderson's Line-Up has been in the RV suspension and
steering space for years, and Tommy brings the kind of practical, been-there knowledge that changes how you think about what your rig is doing underneath you.
Rick Steelman — TST Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems
Special Guest Co-Host | TPMS Authorized Retailer
Rick Steelman is a knowledgeable voices in RV tire pressure monitoring, and he is in the co-host seat for this episode. TST is the industry standard in TPMS — factory installed on over 50 RV model lines, with over 2.2 million sensors in the field. Rick brings the data, the stories, and the straight talk about what a TPMS is actually doing — and what it
cannot do.
Ashley O'Neil — VP of Sales & Partnerships for Performance Trailer Braking
Special Segment | Braking Systems Expert
Ashley from Performance Trailer Braking joins the episode for a dedicated segment on one of the most overlooked safety systems on a tow rig. Brakes are not just about stopping — they are about what happens to your stopping distance when you are pulling weight, what the warning signs of brake trouble actually look like, and why this is a conversation every RVer needs to have before they need to have it.
Tires age whether you drive them or not. Your brakes behave differently when you are towing. Your suspension affects more than your ride quality.
Your TPMS, if you have one ( and you should have one), is only as useful as your understanding of what it is telling you.
We are not going to spoil the episode here. That is what the play button is for.
But we will tell you this: the stories in this episode are real. Blowouts on Texas highways. Brake scares in Florida. A descent down Tioga Pass that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about your rig's limits.
We are talking about the things that RVers either do not know, do not think about until something goes wrong, or have been meaning to address for three seasons and haven't gotten to yet.
Summer travel season is almost here. Rigs are loaded. Roads are hot. And if there is one thing we know at Learn to RV — it is that the best time to learn something is before you need it.
What is rolling under your RV matters. The tires that are carrying your family down the interstate deserve more than a quick walk-around at the campground. The brakes that are going to stop your rig on a mountain grade deserve your attention before you start the descent. The suspension that is keeping you stable in a crosswind deserves to be inspected by someone who knows what they are looking at.
This week's episode is an hour of your time that could change how you travel. Possibly much more than that.
