A Day at the RV/MH Hall of Fame with Stan

Jennifer Schillaci • October 12, 2026

I toured the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart this August with Stan Cromlish of Wandering Gypsy RV Life, and the best part was watching Stan light up at every turn.

The RV/MH Hall of Fame is a museum where you can actually learn the story of how RVs came to be, and it goes well beyond rows of old campers. We were in Elkhart for the FROG rally, so we carved out time to wander through with cameras rolling.

A few things where we had some really fun conversation....

  • A unit that looks like a Shagmobile. We were totally smitten with it. It carries an original FMCA number, and we spent a while speculating about where that number came from.

  • The toy and model room. Brian Artherton of the museum later told me it holds over a thousand units from all over the world, in every scale. We could have stood there for an hour, and I came home with a pile of B-roll from that room alone.

  • Stories in the details. Everywhere you look there is a placard, a magazine ad or a hand-built detail that tells you how people lived on the road decades ago.

Watching Stan explore was like watching a kid in a candy shop, only with a camera and mics. Two podcasters exploring an RV museum together is a special kind of fun, and we were both in awe at every turn.

Did you know that the Museum is also an RV Overnights stop? That's right! You can explore the museum and stay right there on-site and explore the area!

The podcast we forgot to record

Here is the confession: I actually have boatloads of pictures and B-roll from this visit, and a YouTube video is coming soon, but we forgot to record an actual podcast episode while we were inside. Stan captured the audio in the Hall of Fame, and all I came home with was B-roll. We even sat down and recorded a podcast for his podcast in the museum.

So when I ran into Brian Artherton at the Hershey RV Show, I sat down with him inside a 1937 Hunt Housecar and we recorded an increible conversation about that unit and the museum some tidbits you might not know about the museum.

Brian shares the story behind that 1937 Hunt Housecar, what's hiding in the museum's library, how you can help the museum, and his tips for turning an Elkhart County trip into a vintage RV road trip.

If you get the chance to visit, go. Bring a friend who loves to explore, because half the fun is watching them discover it.

Have you been to the Hall of Fame? Tell me your favorite unit in the comments.

Our kids still ask for things. The difference now is what happens next. Over the past year, we've been showing our children, ages 9 and 11, different ways to start and run a business while we travel. It started as a way to keep them engaged and give them a sense of ownership on the road, and it's turned into something we're genuinely committed to. When they ask for extras now, the answer is almost always the same: that's what your money is for. Not as a punishment, but as a real lesson in what things actually cost and what earning something means. The result is kids who think before they spend — because they know what it felt like to earn it. I am not saying they spend it wisely every time, but they are learning. Here's how we've been doing it.
