Chaos, Checklists, and a Super C: Meet Mary Walker of Life in the RV

Jennifer Schillaci • October 26, 2026

Some episodes go exactly as planned. This is not one of them.

When Mary Walker of Life in the RV sat down with me for this Community Spotlight, we had a plan, a list of questions, and every intention of a smooth conversation. What we got was a great story, plenty of laughs, and a technical gremlin that had other ideas. Chaos ensued, and I wouldn't change a thing, because that's real full-time RV life.

Meet Mary

Mary and her husband Tim have been on the road for nine years, and she's been sharing the real side of it at LifeInTheRV.com: real campground experiences, RV tips, and the adventures that bring us all together on the road. She also has a Skool community for anyone dreaming of taking the leap.

What's Mary been up to since we chatted? Well you will just have to follow her at Life in the RV to find out.

Her story starts with a first day you have to hear to believe, and it ends somewhere I never expected a conversation to go. I'm not telling you more than that. You'll have to press play.

What's a Community Spotlight?

This season, our Community Spotlights have been woven right into our main weekly episodes. We are hoping to bring on a second editing team to bring them back every other Thursday soon.

A Community Spotlight is our chance to sit down with someone from this community and let them tell their story in their own words: the leap, the mistakes, the wins, and the people who made the road feel like home.

Because we're doing fewer of them this season, each one matters even more.

We're Always Looking for the Next One

We love meeting people we know in real life, and we love meeting the ones we haven't met yet even more. Maybe that's you. You don't have to be a full-time RVer, a big-name creator, or a perfect podcast guest.

What we're looking for is simple: an honest, organic conversation that's relevant to RV life. Not a sales pitch, and not a script. Just a real story, told your way.

Chaos is welcome here, and the best stories often come from the most unexpected places.

We're always on the lookout for...

  • Families, couples, and solo travelers with a story worth sharing
  • Workcampers, part-timers, and weekend warriors
  • Anyone who has a lesson, a laugh, or a mistake they'd happily pass along

Have a business with a story to tell?

Community Spotlights are all about the conversation, so they aren't the place for a pitch. But if you run a business and want to go beyond the sale and share the story behind the brand, we have a paid option made for exactly that.

It's called Beyond the Brand, and it's a great way to connect with our community through your story.

It's called Beyond the Brand, and those episodes drop on their own dedicated day, every other Wednesday.

They're never an obligatory sales pitch. Our goal is to introduce you to the education and stories a qualified brand has to offer, so you walk away knowing something new about RV life and the people who serve it.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Register as a Guest

Our kids still ask for things. The difference now is what happens next. Over the past year, we've been showing our children, ages 9 and 11, different ways to start and run a business while we travel. It started as a way to keep them engaged and give them a sense of ownership on the road, and it's turned into something we're genuinely committed to. When they ask for extras now, the answer is almost always the same: that's what your money is for. Not as a punishment, but as a real lesson in what things actually cost and what earning something means. The result is kids who think before they spend — because they know what it felt like to earn it. I am not saying they spend it wisely every time, but they are learning. Here's how we've been doing it.
