Ashley first decided to homeschool when she was working on her master's in education, before she even got pregnant! She'd always thought she'd delay formal education, but when her son turned one, he was obsessed with letters. Not wanting to miss this period of interest (now she knows that's not a worry!), they started more formal work ... way too early. By the time her kids were 4 and 5 in 2019, all of them were tired and burnt out.

Ashley had been hearing of gameschooling for a couple of years, but always dismissed it as not real homeschooling. In desperation, she purchased a few math games and they were game-changers! From there, they started incorporating all sorts of academic and more fun games. Ashley started her blog, Gypsy Gameschooler, to share about all the fun games they were playing shortly before they hit the road in 2022 and then published her book, Gameschooling on a Budget, in 2023.

Ashley and her family decided to sell their farm and hit the road in 2021 due to neighbor issues. Selling everything and traveling the world was always her Plan B, so convincing her husband to sell most things and travel the US in a bus wasn't a hard sell. They hit the road from western Washington in 2022 in their skoolie with their two kids (born 2013 and 2015), German Shepherd dog, cat, and angora rabbit.

They have enjoyed workamping, boondocking, and attending events. They've explored down to the southern-most point of Texas (crossing over the border on foot), as far east as the Virginia coast, winters in Arizona, and up the west coast. National parks, historic sites, and science museums are favorite stops to enjoy.
