Let's Celebrate! The NOT back to ROADschool Party!

Jennifer Schillaci • August 12, 2025

While traditional students head back to school, roadschoolers can gather just about anywhere to celebrate learning on their own terms.

SO What exactly is a "Not Back to Roadschool Party?"

It's a season of Celebration of Freedom, Connection, and Choice

As traditional schools swing back into session, roadschoolers across the country are celebrating something entirely different—a celebration of learning without walls, friendships forged on the move, and the bold choices that shape our families’ paths.

It's the Freedom to Learn Anywhere

Roadschooling isn’t just an educational method—it’s a lifestyle rooted in curiosity, adventure, and flexibility. Whether it’s reading under red rock cliffs, exploring science in national parks, or journaling beside a quiet lake, learning happens everywhere. This season, we honor the joy of discovering the world together, one mile at a time.

We embrace Community Connection

The roadschool community is more than a network, it’s a lifeline. If you can host a small gathering it's a chance for RV families to meet face-to-face, swap stories, share resources, and build friendships that stretch across states and seasons year after year. It’s a reminder that even when we travel solo, we’re never alone.

It's a Celebration of Choice

Choosing to homeschool and roadschool takes courage, creativity, and a deep commitment to our children’s growth. It needs to be an intention journey and forge community and connections as we experience this lifestyle.  This celebration recognizes the families who’ve stepped off the beaten path to craft something extraordinary. It's celebrating an education that fits your family values, rhythms, and dreams

So whether you’re hosting a Not Back to Roadschool party or simply reflecting on your journey, take a moment to celebrate. You’re part of a movement that’s redefining what learning can look like, and that’s worth cheering for. and at Learn to RV & Roadschooling Resources we are here to not only cheer you on. We are here to support you at every step on the journey.

The roadschooling movement isn’t powered by institutions—it’s powered by us. Every family, every story, every campfire conversation adds to the vibrant tapestry we’re weaving together.

You are the community.

And it’s up to each and every one of us to keep it thriving.

Spread the word.

Share your journey. Invite a new family. Post that resource. Host that meetup. Your voice matters.

Help others connect.

Whether it’s a Not Back to Roadschool party, a curriculum swap, or a spontaneous hike, every moment of connection strengthens our circle.

Build the future.

This isn’t just about learning on the road—it’s about creating a radically inclusive, endlessly curious, and deeply supportive way of life.

So let’s show up. Let’s celebrate. Let’s make sure no one feels like they’re on this journey alone.

At Learn to RV, we believe the summer is your chance to bring the fun to your family adventures! Pack the essentials—think games, crafts, and snacks that travel well—because joy should always be on the itinerary. Spotlight the kids by inviting them to share their summer stories, perform a skit, or showcase new skills. Plan playful activities like scavenger hunts or bike rides that encourage movement and connection. Let’s create lasting memories on the road, one laugh at a time!

Roadschooling is more than just an educational journey; it’s a beautifully liberating lifestyle that brings families closer together... and it's even more fun with friendships. We have the freedom to explore new places and the flexibility to learn in unique environments, as each day unfolds with the magic of shared experiences. Create keepsakes like a “learning passport” or memory book to capture these adventures, helping kids reflect on what they’ve learned and dreamed about. Plus, don’t forget to swap wisdom with fellow traveling families—curriculum ideas, travel tips, and favorite resources can enrich your journey even more.

The roadschooling community flourishes when everyone feels embraced. By opening our circle, we create space for both newcomers and seasoned travelers to share their unique stories—each one adds invaluable wisdom. We celebrate diversity in all its forms, welcoming different ages, learning styles, and backgrounds. Here, everyone has a voice, and no one sits in the “second row.” Together, let’s foster a culture where everyone is seen, heard, and valued on this incredible journey.

Whether you're parked at a scenic overlook or gathered around a picnic table, the Not Back to School movement is a chance to celebrate what makes roadschooling extraordinary. So bring the fun, share the love, and keep the circle wide.

Our kids still ask for things. The difference now is what happens next. Over the past year, we've been showing our children, ages 9 and 11, different ways to start and run a business while we travel. It started as a way to keep them engaged and give them a sense of ownership on the road, and it's turned into something we're genuinely committed to. When they ask for extras now, the answer is almost always the same: that's what your money is for. Not as a punishment, but as a real lesson in what things actually cost and what earning something means. The result is kids who think before they spend — because they know what it felt like to earn it. I am not saying they spend it wisely every time, but they are learning. Here's how we've been doing it.

If you’re a full-time RVer, you already understand something most people don’t....that life doesn’t always go according to plan. You’ve chosen freedom. Flexibility. The ability to wake up in a new place whenever you want. But with that freedom comes a unique responsibility—especially when it comes to your health insurance. Because when you’re constantly on the move, having the right coverage isn’t just important… it’s critical. And recently, I was reminded exactly why.
